Livermore School of Dance Ballet Company
Mission:  To give dedicated ballet dancers an opportunity for growth and further development of ballet technique through intensive training in classical and contemporary styles, while offering   performance opportunities at local and varied venues.

Desired Applicants:  Ballet dancers ages 10 and up with at least 3 years ballet experience.       Company dancers must be currently enrolled in at least 2 ballet classes a week and must be consistent in their class attendance.  Dancers with less than 3 years experience who take multiple classes a week will be considered.  Dancers who miss more than 4 classes a month without good reason, will be dropped from the company.

Division of the Company:  Dancers ages 12 and up will be placed in either the corps de ballet or in the position of soloist or principal dancer.  Placement will be based solely on ability level and a dancer will be dropped out of the soloist or principal position if the director feels that their commitment level is not up to standards.  Therefore, principal and soloist dancers must consistently attend rehearsals and regularly scheduled classes and be available for extra, private rehearsals needed before performances.   Dancers ages 10 and 11 years will play a pivotal role in the company, but their rehearsal schedule will not be as intensive and their onstage performance time will be less than corps, soloist, or principal dancers.  Throughout the 2008 - 2009 season (September through August), the director will advance dancers when appropriate.  On occasion, corps dancers will have the opportunity to dance solo roles.

Annual Fee:  Dancers ages 10 & 11:  $100.00
Dancers ages 12 & up:  $150.00, with soloists and principals at $175.00

Dancers must make a commitment by signing this contract and submitting the annual fee of $100 or $150 prior to their placement being posted or announced.  Dancers will not be told their place within the company and then be able to make the decision to join or not.  Dancers are either committed at any level within the company or not at all.  Soloists and principal dancers will pay the $25 additional fee upon placement.

The annual fee covers all company classes and rehearsals for the year (see attached schedule).  Any costumes used will be purchased by the director and on loan to the dancers or costumes from past performances will be used.     Additional expenses for the dancer may include the purchase of a body-liner, special tights or flat shoes (example, black shoes or tights), and any tickets needed for theater performances.

Director's Note:  This company will be organized and managed like a real ballet company.     Dancers will be placed based on technical and theatrical ability.   It is up to the director's discretion alone as to the proper placement of a dancer within the company.  Many dancers who regularly take class together will not be categorized equally within the company.  Within the corps de ballet, the choreography will be varied to accommodate different levels of dancers.
To clarify questions about commitment levels and performance time, the more ballet classes you take and the more available you are to the Company, the more you will perform. You must currently be taking at least 2 CLASSES A WEEK at the Livermore School of Dance to be in the Company. If you are also performing in the Jazz Company and have a large role within that Company, you will not have as much performance time as those who are only in the Ballet Company. The sole reason being that we do not want dancers to be overwhelmed and overworked, and wish to avoid the injuries that may result. It is better to perform at your highest level in three dances than at a lower level in five!
                                                       -Shelly Schoendienst, Ballet Company Director

COMPANY DANCEWEAR:
Soon we will have a display of Company dancewear that will be available for purchase.  We will offer a light-weight hooded sweatshirt, yoga pants, long-sleeved v-neck t-shirt, and dance shorts. All pieces will have the Company logo.

COMPANY PICTURES:
We are working to set-up some dates for dancers in the Company to have a headshot taken for a Company brochure and performance programs.  I would like for this to be comparable to what you receive when you attend a performance at San Francisco or San Jose Ballet.  I will also schedule a group Company photo to be taken sometime in October.

FUNDRAISING:
We are in the process of putting together a fundraising calendar highlighting the different types of fundraising we would like to pursue throughout the year.  The calendar would be for your reference and the fundraising information would be available to you during those weeks or months of the year.

BALLET IN THE PARK:
We are working diligently to schedule our first "Ballet in the Park" in August 2009.  We know    everyone needs this date as soon as possible, so we will get it to you in the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for understanding the rehearsal time adjustments for our two October rehearsals.  The ValleyCare Foundation venues are very important to our Company and will open doors for us to perform at other charitable events.  I want to make sure we are more than prepared for these        performances.  We also need to start working on Giselle, because February will be here before we know it!
                                                                             -Thank you,  Shelly Schoendienst
